Cheesy Taco Wontons

You'll need:

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 c shredded cheese
  • wonton wrappers
  • Oil, for frying

Make the taco meat first. Set a small saucepan over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Brown fully - click here for a detailed tutorial. Drain any excess fat, then return to medium heat and add a packet of taco seasoning and 1/4 c water and stir well. Cook until the liquid is evaporated, about 10 or 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese. (You can set this aside and refrigerate at this point until you're ready to make the wontons, up to 3 or 4 days.)

Set out the wonton wrappers and a small bowl of water for the assembly line. Put about 2 teaspoon (or a scant tablespoon) of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper, then use your finger to brush water along the edges and seal in a triangle shape. (Click here for a detailed tutorial on folding wontons.)

Heat oil to 350 and fry about 2 minutes, until browned and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Serve with salsa or this queso recipe.
