This recipe made the rounds on Tumblr a couple of years ago with its accompanying story: a son finally got his mother to pass onto him the prized family meatloaf recipe, only to be subsequently rejected by her when he came out as gay. In retaliation, he released the best meatloaf recipe ever.
I took the barebones recipe, bulked it up with some more guidance, and guys, it's the best.
For the meatloaf:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1 packet Ranch mix
- 1 Tbs ketchup
- 1 Tbs spicy brown mustard
- 1 Tbs barbecue sauce
- 1 Tbs steak sauce
- 1 egg
For the topping:
- 1 Tbs ketchup
- 1 Tbs spicy brown mustard
- 1 Tbs barbecue sauce
- 1 Tbs steak sauce
Preheat oven to 350. Line a 9x13 pan with aluminum foil and coat with cooking spray.
Mix all meatloaf ingredients, minus the ground beef, in a medium bowl. Add the beef and mix with your hands until the seasonings are evenly distributed. Form into a loaf and put in the pan.
Mix all topping ingredients and spoon on top of the meatloaf.
Bake about 60 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.
